Mongabay is seeking a Full Stack Engineer to build the core platform infrastructure for Story Transformer, an initiative that utilizes AI to translate environmental journalism into multiple languages and formats. The engineer will create a system for content transformation, review, and distribution to global communities. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to conservation and climate resilience.
Python (FastAPI or Django preferred), RESTful API design, PostgreSQL database design, React.js, TypeScript, Modern CSS frameworks (Tailwind preferred), AWS deployment and management (Lambda, EC2, S3, API Gateway), API integration, Queue systems (Celery, Redis, or similar), Git, Security (authentication, authorization, data protection), Experience with Amazon Web Services (Bedrock, Lambda, S3, EC2, RDS), Background in content management systems (WordPress, Drupal, etc.), Experience with messaging platforms (WhatsApp Business API, Twilio, etc.), Understanding of low-bandwidth optimisation and offline-first design, Previous work with international/multilingual applications, Experience in nonprofit or social impact technology
